New Bylaws Presented and Put to a Vote
a letter from the church governance task force chair
The Church Governance Task Force (CGTF): Tad Harris; Kim Hester, recording secretary; Nancy Ryals; Jim Shull, chair; Harold Smith; Mary Frances Turner; and Wes Turner, has met twenty times in the past ten months. Its assignment was to review the 1974 restated charter, alternative governance structures, and strategic planning for our church.
Following a lengthy process of analysis, research, and meetings (including an Executive Leadership Council approval), the task force is prepared to:
- introduce the recommended bylaws at the September 25 business meeting.
- conduct a town hall meeting with lunch following the October 13 worship services.
- answer further questions at the October 23 business meeting.
- conduct a vote on approving the recommended bylaws during the October 27 worship services.
The CGTF was privileged to serve our church this past year as
we approach our 200th birthday. We hope these bylaws will serve us well as we enter our third century of ministry in downtown Nashville. We ask you to consider this recommendation prayerfully, and to be well-informed as you vote.
Jim Shull, Chair
