Senior Adults Abundantly Living Today (SAALT)
SAALT is a comprehensive ministry for older adults which supports all church ministries and programs of Nashville First Baptist Church.
Our older adult reservation hotline (615.664.6015) is an efficient way to make reservations or ask questions regarding an event or activity.
SAALT members believe that the most important thing they do is Bible study. Our teachers are highly trained and experienced; they are dedicated to teaching the truths of God’s Word creatively and accurately to bring about life change. Our Bible study classes also provide many opportunities for social and mission events for both members and prospects.
Interested in First Communities, our small group ministry? Groups are location-based, so you can experience intimate learning, sharing and fellowship close to home, with people of diverse backgrounds and ages.
Led by Tom Clark with Pam Stockett (Front.Desk@NashvilleFirst.org) serving as staff liaison, the SAALT Council is the creative, energetic group that generates and leads activities for older adults.
The SAALT Ministry takes pleasure trips–both short and long–from cruises, to day bus trips. Destinations include nearby locations like the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, TN, and Oak Ridge (the “Secret City”). Further destinations include Alaska, Italy, and The Panama Canal.
Mission trips are planned yearly to out-of-town destinations such as the Canadian Baptist Seminary in British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, the Kentucky Oneida School, and the Ducktown Mission in Ducktown, Tenn. Local mission opportunities include the James Robertson Apartments, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Room in the Inn. A “mystery trip” local mission project is also an event that’s highly anticipated.
Luncheons and Banquets
On the third Monday each month, we meet at 10 a.m. for an informative and entertaining lunch. Called “3M,” these gatherings provide programs that focus on the total person, and sometimes include guests such as local TV and newspaper personalities, authors, musicians and civic leaders. Reservations are encouraged, so call 615.664.6015. Cost is $5. Throughout the year, there are other large SAALT gatherings, including A Country Breakfast in the winter. These are great opportunities to bring friends and introduce them to SAALT and Nashville’s FBC!
SAALT members communicate via the weekly Senior E-Pistle. This electronic newsletter provides current church news and is also available as a printed newsletter. Email Pam Stockett (Front.Desk@NashvilleFirst.org) to subscribe to our weekly newsletter.
The SAALT Shaker is a monthly magazine edited by Pam Stockett. It provides in-depth news and articles of interest to older adults and is available the first Sunday each month.
